On The Rox

Posted on: March 27th, 2010 by wmapother 2 Comments

Did something last night that, every time I do it, I wonder why I don’t do it more often.  No, not that.  I caught some live music.  Yes, I know I wrote about Randy Newman just a few weeks ago, but before that it had been far too long.

And last night’s show couldn’t have been more different than the Man’s show.  It was upstairs at the legendary Roxy on Sunset in an after-hours room called On the Rox, offering a nice view of LA if you aren’t inclined to watch the band.

My last post on music rambled.  Live and learn.  So, to cut to it, three recs to check out:

1)  Jill Hennessy of ‘Crossing Jordan’ fame played a terrific acoustic set.    Info on her here and here.

2)  Concepto Tambor then jerked everyone out of their reveries with some rocking Latin drum and bass.  They’re on myspace here.

3)  Finally, Micah Green et al closed out with some riveting indie rock/folk.  He’s here and here.

The Vamping Vamp

Posted on: March 24th, 2010 by wmapother 2 Comments

Even a bloodsucker needs a little love.  Here’s a pic from the ep I shot last week of the web series “I heart vampires.”  My right fang is just half-visible behind the mirror.  The make-up artist slathered the fang glue, then asked me to hold it in place for about five minutes (While I slurringly asked her about eight times if she was sure it would come off.  It did, thank god.)
It’s called “Nick: Into the Darkness,” ep 4, and I’ve been told it should be up in the couple weeks.

Mysteries of Scandanavia

Posted on: March 24th, 2010 by wmapother 3 Comments

Why are people from Scandanavia so kind?  Is the weather too cold to get annoyed?  Do the blonds put everyone in a good mood?  Is it just so much fun to say ‘fjord‘ all the time?  Whatever the reason, today I had an encounter with the kindly folk from way, way over there.

I was called in to play a character in a very cool upcoming MMRPG (massive multiplayer role playing game), or, as this type of game is known among those in a hurry, MMO (massively multiplayer online game).  The game is called “The Secret World” and is begin developed by Funcom.  In this post are a couple pieces of artwork from the game’s website here.

The director and writer were piped into my headset from Norway, which made the entire session feel like a game of its own, as if I were simply an avatar for a pair of thrill-seekers from the archipelago of Svalbard.  Based on the fun I had and their generous and insightful comments, there are many, many worse things to be.

Of course I can’t tell you anything about the game (as if!), but the link above offers some intriguing teasers.  What I can say is that the script and characters were very well written, and I hope they hurry up and release the dang game already.

Me as Me

Posted on: March 20th, 2010 by wmapother 4 Comments

Humans of the world, doubt the future of web TV no longer:  I just shot my first ep of a web series.  It’s called I <3 Vampires (‘I heart vampires, for those of you over the age of 12), and its home page is here.

My character, with the most exceptional name of William,  is the leader of a vampire clan and has been around on the earth a heckuva lot longer than I have.  His primary purpose:  Get the newly vamped Nick to act as a spokeperson for the woefully misunderstood and poorly-p.r.’d vampire contingent.

The ep should be posted in the next couple weeks, and hopefully I’ll have stills from the shoot, white make-up and all.

AOL TV

A new video interview with me about Lost and All Things Ethan has been posted on AOL TV here.  I was grilled by the very funny Maggie Furlong, a Lost fanatic if I’ve ever seen one.  Which I have.  Believe me.  Not, of course, that there’s anything wrong with that.
