"To Be Or Not –" Line!

Posted on: March 11th, 2011 by wmapother 4 Comments

As in most fields, the craft of acting is composed of multiple skills, anything from accents to hitting your mark to incorporating physicality.  One skill I get asked about a lot is memorization.  For some actors it’s a real bear.

I recently discovered a great memorization tool, an iPhone app called Rehearsal.  (In iTunes store here.)  Although it offers several features, the app’s real strength is making it easy to have your partner’s lines read aloud to you.  And hearing the lines, not just reading them off the page, has made it much easier for me to memorize.
The app isn’t cheap, but for me it’s worth every penny.
[Note:  I’ve never met the app’s creator and receive no payment for recommending it.  It feels a bit weird to even need to clarify this, but there it is…]

Oh, Sault Ste Marie!

Posted on: February 27th, 2011 by wmapother 7 Comments

So I’m shooting here in chilly Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, just a quick swim across the border from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  The movie is Citizen Gangster, about the infamous Canadian bank robber and prison escaper, who operated from about 1949-52.

Scott Speedman (Felicity, Underworld, etc.) is playing Edwin, and Kevin Durand (Martin Keamy of Lost, etc.) is playing one of his gang members.  My role is Detective Rhys, who arrests Eddie and then pursues the gang after their escape.

I’ve had little time to explore the area, but it’s beautiful (the pic is from my hotel window), and the people are preternaturally friendly — as one expects from Canadians..

KY-IN bridge. Finally.

Posted on: February 20th, 2011 by wmapother 3 Comments

Your government, hard at work:  The Big Four Bridge, a former railroad bridge which crosses the Ohio River between Louisville, KY and Jeffersonville, IN, will finally be renovated for pedestrians and bicycles.  It’s been unused and an eyesore for decades, so the two states’ recent announcement is overdue but very welcome.

An article on it is here.
