Launch Broken…But Not Too Broken

Posted on: August 17th, 2011 by wmapother 2 Comments

I love that advice.  In other words, just get the darn thing out the door.  And this site is just that darn thing.

Welcome to the new WilliamMapother.com.

It isn’t perfect or complete, and some may call it barely serviceable, but at least it’s out the door.  I intend to take a page from the playbooks of the best tech companies and iterate frequently, instead of tweaking endlessly toward some vague notion of perfection.

So — plenty of more content will be uploaded in the coming days, weeks and months, and if there’s anything you’d like to see, please let me know (on the About page).

In the meantime, I’m glad to have you here.

Q&A for AE in KY

Posted on: August 17th, 2011 by wmapother 1 Comment

This weekend Another Earth opens in Louisville, among other places, but I’m not from those other places, I’m from Louisville, so that’s where I’ll be this weekend.

It’s playing at the Baxter Ave. Filmworks, and this Friday & Saturday night I’m doing a Q&A after the 7:40 shows.  (Baxter has a strict no-rotten-vegetables policy.  Sorry.)

A little local press never hurt anyone:
• Louisville’s Voice-Tribune this week includes a very kind piece on me here, and
• Thursday at 3:30pm I’ll be calling into Terry Meiners‘s show.

Edwin is Toronto-bound

The Toronto Film Festival welcomes one of its own.  Citizen Gangster, in which I play a police detective in 1950 Canada, has been accepted into the Toronto Film Festival, which runs Sept 8-18.

Edwin‘s site for the festival is here, and the site for our Program, Special Presentations, is here.

The title character (right) is played by Scott Speedman.  Of Canada.

Searchlight Praise. Plus, a video interview.

Fox Searchlight has been a dream come true for those of us associated with Another Earth.
• First, they bought the film at Sundance.
• Second, they cut a killer trailer and spread it far and wide.
• Third, they’re executing a fantastic marketing and publicity campaign.
• Fourth, every single person has been upbeat, organized, and fun to work with.  What’s in the water over there?

Today we had a press day in LA.  Monday we had press in NYC, where they recorded a video interview here.

Crazy Love from Louisville Media

The Flyover Film Festival kicks off tonight with Another Earth and my Q&A after, and the Louisville media has been absolutely fantastic in helping promote both the screening and the festival overall.  Both WAVE & WBKI hosted me on TV this morning, and I’ll be on Terry Meiners‘ show this afternoon.

Among the other lovers:
LeoWeekly
The Courier-Journal
Loueyville.blogspot.com
St. Xavier HS
Friend of Lou
Fox 41

Looking forward to a fun weekend, and a great festival!
