ProducedBy Panel Piece P.R.

Posted on: June 6th, 2011 by wmapother 3 Comments

Yday’s panel at the Produced By Conference was, I hope, as informative for the filmmakers as it was fun for the participants.  The focus was on adding actors to independent films, but the conversation included lots of things, and I spoke a bit about Slated soon to be in beta on its online marketplace for film finance.  Judging by the reaction of filmmakers afterwards, finding a new potential source of capital for their films isn’t exactly the worst idea they’ve ever heard..

One tip for indie producers seeking talent (the industry’s kind term for actors) for their low-budget films:  Consider offering the actors the types of roles they generally don’t get a chance to play.  Just a thought.

The Hollywood Reporter piece on it is here.

‘Produced By’ Conference

Next Sat the Producers Guild is hosting on the Disney lot their big ‘Produced By‘ Conference.  I’ve been asked to appear on a panel.  The panel’s topic is not, in fact, on how to Kill with a Look.  : )   It’s the much more mundane, but more helpful, ‘The Influence of Professional Talent on Indie Projects.’

The Panel details (Sat at 9:45am) are on this page, my bio is here, a list of all speakers is here, and the egos in the room are represented by this shot of animals here.

There are a lot of terrific speakers.  It should be a blast.

Flyover!

A few years ago some friends and I started Flyover Film Festival in Louisville, KY, and the third annual one is coming up this June 10-12.

Ryan Daly, our festival director, has assembled a fantastic line-up for this year.  The details are here.

And Another Earth (trailer here), which doesn’t open in NY & LA until July 22 (the release after that is still t.b.d.), is opening the festival.  It plays at 7pm on Friday, June 10, at the KY Center for the Arts.

This may be the only chance to see it in Louisville on the big screen.  I’m just sayin’..

It’s that time of year again:  Louisville Flyover Film Festival is set for June 10-12.  In anticipation of it, I did an interview about the festival and Another Earth, which is playing at the festival, on Louisville.com.  The link is here.

KY’s Civil Importance

(Okay, so I’ve been a bit absent lately.  I’m putting more of my updates on Twitter and Facebook these days..)

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the NYT has been running a wonderful series of articles on the war called ‘Disunion.’  It’s here.

On Derby Day, appropriately enough, the piece was on Kentucky and its importance to both sides.  It’s fascinating, I think, and can be found here.
