Sometimes, no news is just, well, no news

Posted on: March 16th, 2010 by wmapother 2 Comments

In response to literally thousands, perhaps millions, of letters and emails that have nearly shut down southern California servers and post offices, I’m here to save the day with updates on a couple projects.

A Warrior’s Heart‘ when last I checked was nearing the final stages of post-production.  How and when you’ll be able to see it is still uncertain.  It may receive theatrical distribution, or it may go right to video/cable.  As soon as I hear something, I’ll send word immediately.

Another Earth‘ is definitely still in post-production.  (These things take time, people!)  It will almost surely first go to film festivals, in order to attain the momentum necessary to fill theatres both near you and across the globe, thereby vaunting it into a box office bonanza far, far beyond anything that weakling ‘Avatar’ ever dreamed of.  Or something like that.

Back from the Non-Dead, only to…

Posted on: February 1st, 2010 by wmapother 1 Comment

My, my, my. Five months just doesn’t take as long to slip by as it used to, does it? Well, no use blaming Mother Earth and Father Time for this one. Mea culpa, big time. My apologies for the absence — but those aliens just wouldn’t bring me back, no matter what I said. Okay, enough tomfoolery. Lost, er, Lots to catch up on.

So, after finishing the Shakespeare Lab in NYC, I narrated The New Sudan, a documentary on Southern Sudan’s work at rebuilding after the twenty-year civil war. It will soon begin the circuit of film festivals. The trailer is here.
Then I shot an indie film, Another Earth, in the gorgeous Catskills of New York state. It’s a romantic drama/sci-fi. That will also soon be making the festival rounds.
November found me in Vancouver, another beautiful location. (It’s a tough job, I know..). This time I was shooting an episode (called ‘Sanctuary’) of Fox’s new show Human Target, which airs THIS Wed, Feb 3, at 8pm. (Gold stars to those who guessed that might have something to do with my finally returning to my blog..) If you miss the airing, you can see it on Hulu by clicking here.
Then, in December, I was back in NYC to shoot an episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent. (which should air in March/April). NYC in December with the holidays lights and the smiling shoppers…Autumn been berry berry good to me.
That’s enough for the first post in five months. I didn’t stretch properly, and I don’t want an injury after so long away. More to come soon!

First Flyover Film Festival

Posted on: May 31st, 2009 by wmapother 3 Comments

I’m very happy to announce that on June 12-14, Louisville will host its first-ever Flyover Film Festival, founded by several fabulous people (Sheila Berman, Ryan Daly, Gill Holland, Tracy Heightchew, Stu Pollard, George Parker) and myself.

For this inaugural festival we’ve focused mostly on films which include participation from a present or past Louisvillian.  Those connections are here, and the schedule is here.  Of course, I suggested (humbly, mind you!) one of my own films, and lo and behold, the festival will be showing ‘The Burrowers.’  Fortunate attendees will be able to see Phil Parmet’s terrific cinematography (and the awesomely gooey-mouthed creatures) on a wide screen, as well as lob some questions (easy one) to me and (difficult ones) to the nimble director, JT Petty, in a Q & A afterwards.
The festival offers a few other feature films, including one with William H. Macy, some powerful documentaries, and several wonderful short films.  A filmmaker’s reception, an afterparty at Gill’s Green Building, and an awards ceremony round out the festivities.  All screenings take place at downtown’s Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
See y’all there!

Burrowers Trailer Released

Posted on: April 14th, 2009 by wmapother 4 Comments

In anticipation of next week’s DVD release of The Burrowers, Lionsgate has posted the official trailer for the film here, hosted by the kind folks at Shock Till You Drop. I’d be a dang liar if I said I wasn’t a bit disappointed that audiences weren’t going to see this Horror-Western on a big screen. (It looks terrific that large, and them dirt-dwellers, well, seein’ them babies at 50 feet high ain’t gonna be helpin’ your dreamin’ none. And isn’t that why you see them sorta picture shows?) Regardless, JT Petty and the gang made a fun fusion of the two genres, one I really enjoyed…almost as much as I enjoyed gettin’ paid to ride horses.

SXSW

Posted on: March 25th, 2009 by wmapother No Comments

Just returned from another raucous trip to Austin’s South by Southwest Festival. Two friends won the Special Jury Prize with the premiere of their documentary, The Way We Get By; I was able to watch a rehearsal of the theatre troupe Rude Mechs‘s upcoming show; and, not least in any way, shape, or form, I saw the Waco Brothers perform two terrific shows. If you haven’t treated yourself, listen to a few pieces of their rockin’ alt country here on iTunes. Go ahead, I’ll wait.. Really, I will. Go on. (Back in just a sec.) Right? See what I mean? If you have them on and aren’t moving, check yourself for a pulse. They’re all over my workout playlist, which is why I blame them for my reputation at the gym for being a spaz.
