SAGIndie Post

Posted on: October 19th, 2011 by wmapother No Comments

For indie filmmakers seeking help on how to use SAG actors in their productions, SAGIndie is a godsend.  They hit the film festivals, conventions and trade shows to spread the word that running your production through the Guild is easy, fair and protective.  They also have an extensive FAQ.  I wrote a guest post for the site, and it’s now up.  The same piece is also  available on my Huffington Post blog.

Projects Update

Posted on: October 7th, 2011 by wmapother 3 Comments

With these updates I hope you’ll all be able to finalize your autumn schedules…

My Mentalist episode airs on Nov 2.

On Dec 2, A Warrior’s Heart, the indie I made a good while back with Twilight‘s  Ashley Greene & Kellan Lutz, will have a limited (10-city) theatrical release and come out on VOD.  More details as I get them.

In January, Lifetime will air The Drew Peterson Story, starring Rob Lowe in a scary moustache.

Here’s to a lovely autumn.

I’m Thinking of…

If player-coaches have a tough time, imagine actor-directors.  Now imagine actor-directors directing their old friends.  Now imagine actor-directors directing their old friends named William Mapother.  Now go get a drink.  I just did.

Fortunately, this bad sort of drama was in absence last week on the set of The Mentalist.  I shot an ep — Blinking Red Light –directed by the star Aussie with blinding smile, Simon Baker, whom I’ve known for longer than either of us care to recall, and Simon was as fun, calm and crafty as you’d expect.  My scenes were with the copacetic Robin Tunney, whom I know from The Zodiak.

Being an actor:  Bad – waiting for work.  Good – making lots of friends, running into them unexpectedly, and working with them when the stars align.

Up On Beaver Creek

Posted on: October 4th, 2011 by wmapother 2 Comments

Ian Timothy, a sophomore from my alma mater, St. Xavier High School in Louisville, is making waves in the stop motion animation world.  For the second year in a row, he’s won National Gold Medals in Film and Animation for his series Beaver Creek.  The local PBS station, KET, featured him on a recent episode of Louisville Life.

Each episode runs under ten minutes and takes several months to create.  He works his magic up on the second floor of his home, and the recording booth in the basement.  While in Louisville a few months ago, I dropped by and was given the privilege of voicing a new character, the turtle, who makes his debut halfway through (and then again at the end) in the newly released episode Seven.  Give it up for the turtle, people.

If you’re sleepless..

Posted on: August 31st, 2011 by wmapother No Comments

As mentioned in a previous post, I’m running once again for the National Board of the Screen Actors Guild, a position I’ve held since 2007.  Yes, the Board can be dysfunctional, contentious, and a huge time suck.  Unfortunately, I guess, I need the eggs.

So, for the benefit of voting SAG members, but especially those poor souls unable to drift off at night, I answered fourteen (14, XIV, thirteen and a half more than you care about) pages worth of questions from the Hollywood Reporter about myself, SAG, and our likely merger of AFTRA.

Uh, hello?  Hellooo?  Out already?  Okay, well, you’re welcome.  When you come to, if you’re interested, wipe off your nap drool and head over here.
