Asssscat!

Posted on: June 2nd, 2010 by wmapother 3 Comments

There are just so many tempting directions to take that title…  But we have ground to cover, people, so that’s a riff for another day.  (sigh.)

Asssscat! is the name of a regular show at the fabulous UCB comedy theatre (which held the ‘Lost’ show two weeks ago – posts here and here).

The set-up:  Using a suggestion from the audience, a guest monologist spills his guts for 5-10 minutes by sharing his thoughts, feelings, or a meaningful story from his past.  Then a group of improv comedians comes up on stage, takes those guts, and spins them into comic gold.  Then we do it again:  Suggestion, guts, comic gold.  Repeat until guest dies.

So who are these mystery monologists?  UCB website:  “Some guest monologists are talented celebrities, others are screwed up weirdoes.”

This Saturday’s monologist and guts-spiller?  I am he.  It should be loads of fun — for everyone else.  (Kidding!)  I’m sure it’ll be a blast.

The UCB schedule is here, and the show description and link to tickets is here.

Report on Last Night’s HI-larity

Posted on: May 24th, 2010 by wmapother 1 Comment

Zap2it has a report here on last night’s “Dharma Station: UCB: A ‘Lost’ Comedy Event, the evening of ‘Lost’-themed sketches.  Damn, was it a blast.  No, I’m not just glad to be there:  That’s a papaya in my shirt.
It’s a safe bet I’ll be hanging out a bit at the UCB for the foreseeable future.  The comedians are hysterical and friendly.  Sigh.

Finally, Ethan Gets a Laugh

Tonight I’ll be performing on stage at the UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade), the galactically-renowned comedy theatre (well, plus the one in NYC, too..).  They’re having a special show of Lost-themed skits and the tickets sold out faster than _____ (insert favorite Lost analogy here; the clock’s running on their usability).  The link to the show and the comedy regulars is here.

My skit was written by Jarrad Paul; requires a good bit of improv (somebody stop me!); and will feature moi and him; and be — oh, I think you know this already — HI-larious.  Also, I bought two papayas.  I have no idea how I’m going to use them in the skit.  But I will.  Oh, I will.

Lost: The (Nearly) Final Celebration

Posted on: May 11th, 2010 by wmapother 4 Comments

This Thursday at UCLA’s Royce Hall, ABC is hosting a Lost party/charity event, ‘Lost: The Final Celebration.’  Composer Michael Giacchino will perform some of his music, the penultimate episode will be screened (shhh), and then they’ll be a deconstruction, er, party afterwards.

My date will be my fabulous and glamorous agent Suzanne.  Asking her to join me is just a small token of my gratitude, considering it is only through her ingenious efforts that I’m a part of this whole crazy Lost world to begin with.  Thank you, Suz, again and again.

Info is here and tickets (if any are left) are here.

Note:  The photo is, of course, from season one, right before Charlie brutally murdered the  unarmed, just-stabbed-in-the-leg-offscreen-and-therefore-considerably-weakened obstetric surgeon Ethan.

But don’t weep for me, Argentina, Romania, Thailand or Zimbabwe.  After I die, I’ll be back for eight more episodes.  But Charlie won’t.  And let that be a lesson to you young heroin addicts out there.

WILLIAM and Mary

Posted on: April 28th, 2010 by wmapother 4 Comments

The  Int’l Mercury Expo at the College of WILLIAM and Mary this past weekend went off without a hitch.  Yours truly gave a talk Saturday night on the importance of social activism and volunteerism to (mostly) students.  Afterward, your intrepid blogger answered their questions about his activities, acting in Hollywood, and ‘Lost.’  It was a wholly fun evening, even if neither I nor they learned any more about what’s lurking in your dental fillings or tuna sushi.

The student paper’s interview is here.
