William Mapother on Now or Never for SAG

Posted on: December 30th, 2008 by wmapother 5 Comments

The Screen Actors Guild website has added several new video clips, including this 6-minute clip from William, from actors speaking out on the contract crisis currently facing members of the industry. William’s clip really lays out the reasons why Guild members need to fight for their rights now, why “temporarily” accepting the unacceptable is a path that cannot be reversed once taken, and what the short-and long-term implications will be if SAG members lose this battle.

The word “strike” is an alarming term and the reaction it brings is understandable, but it must be made clear that approving a strike authorization does NOT mean that a strike is inevitable. Guild members who lend their names to the Solidarity Campaign, and who vote “Yes” in support of a strike authorization, are merely arming the negotiating committee with the strength they need to have the talks continue.

Whether you are a SAG member or not, this is an issue that will touch us all in some way. Stay informed and aware by following developments on the official SAG website.

"The Lather Effect" comes to cable TV

Posted on: December 4th, 2008 by wmapother No Comments

This Friday night brings the cable TV premiere of William’s movie The Lather Effect, one of two independent films William shot back-to-back in 2005 that came out on DVD last spring. Described as a Big Chillfor the 80’s generation, the film explores the complex dynamics between a group of old friends cleaning up the mess left by one wild drunken party (and the years of unresolved hurt, love, envy, and doubt that preceded it).

Lather is definitely a must-see film for William fans, as it provides a rare opportunity for William to act far “outside the box” of his more common scary/creepy roles. His character “Jack” has plenty of serious and intense moments, as do all of the characters. However, for those who have wanted to see William flex his acting muscles in romantic scenes — lighthearted banter, emotional connection peppered with moments of temptation and long-held yearning — The Lather Effect breaks a lot of new ground for him onscreen.
Lather hits the small screen this Friday night on Showtime. If you haven’t yet seen the film, keep an eye on your local cable listings (or make your holiday wish list on Amazon.com) and check it out!

"Criminal Minds" countdown: questions, photos and more!

Posted on: October 22nd, 2008 by wmapother 2 Comments

Tonight CBS will be airing William’s guest starring appearance on the hit drama Criminal Minds!

With a busy schedule of movie roles, stage appearances, and offscreen projects, it’s been a while since William Mapother has graced the small screen. To whet viewer appetites, William took the time to answer a few quick questions about his role in tonight’s episode. Please enjoy his comments below, and also please enjoy the additional photos which were generously shared by William’s costar in tonight’s episode, the always delightful (and only occasionally very creepy!) Wil Wheaton!

How did you come to the role on Criminal Minds, and what was it about this role that appealed to you?

It was offered to me. I’d passed on several previous offers because the characters were, as audiences like to say, bad guys. This role I accepted because the character was, as I like to say, a good guy.

What was the CM filming experience like for you?

Fantastic, thank you for asking. The crew was smooth and friendly, and Robyn was a joy, and John Gallagher, the director, and I know each other from our memorable work as P.A.’s on Born on the Fourth of July, two hundred and thirty-seven years ago.

Who did you get to work with, and what were your impressions of your co-stars?

Mostly with Robyn and Wil Wheaton, both of whom I very much like, both as people and fellow actors. Robyn and I got along immediately and very well, like old friends. Wil creeped me out in his role, frankly. And I didn’t much mind being the creepee for once.

How would you compare “Ian Corbin” to the rest of your stable of characters?

Ian doesn’t maim, lame, or shame (his parents). He’s more of an Everyman than I usually get to play.
